Iris Ferosie Hart has worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Chicago for over 20 years. Her experience as an attorney includes working with victims of violent crimes, and she considers her time as a trial specialist in the felony Domestic Violence Unit as the most rewarding of her career. Her interest in helping youth began in college, when she worked at a runaway shelter in Milwaukee and witnessed first-hand the impact of domestic abuse, sexual violence and homelessness on adolescents. This interest extended to her career as prosecutor, where she handled cases involving child abuse, domestic violence and sex assault cases involving adolescent victims. Iris has also worked in her community coaching for Girls on the Run, a girls’ empowerment program that teaches confidence and problem solving through physical activity, and currently serves on GOTR’s governing board. As the proud mother of three children, two of which are girls, Iris is honored to be on the Executive Committee of GSG, serving as president, and hopes to continue to raise awareness of gender inequality locally, nationally and in the majority world.
